In the second of our new Cab Kit Tests comparing all sizes of cab, we pit two small giants of the 7.5-tonner world against each other

Having been spoilt last month, it was time to get our testers' feet back on the ground with a brace of 7.5-tonners - and what better to test than DAF and Iveco, the two deadliest rivals at the light end of the market?

DAF's LF has racked up more than 17,000 sales since its launch in 2001. A year after its debut it also scooped the prestigious International Truck of the Year award. Available in 17 different wheelbases, with a choice of engine power ratings and transmissions, there's no such thing as a 'standard' LF. But with around 75% of sales being at 7.5 tonnes, our test truck is as close as you'll get to the UK's joint-favourite urban delivery vehicle.

Iveco meanwhile topped the UK 7.5-tonne Premier League last year just a smidgen ahead of DAF. The current EuroCargo broke cover in 2003 sporting a heavily reworked cab courtesy of styling guru Bertone. Although it has the inner frame and doors of the old model, you could be forgiven for thinking it's an all-new cabin. Under the hood you'll find Euro 3 updates of the popular four- and six-pot Tector engines developed from 'old' Cargo.

Ultimately our scoring of these hot rivals was very tight, as you might expect from two small-truck titans.
